Easter Egg Shake Shake

“Shake, shake!”, chanted the crowd of seniors and adults. Contrary to first thoughts, there was not a dance contest in progress. Instead, our youthful-minded seniors and adults were learning how to color eggs and celebrate the tradition of new life to meet our corporate goal of providing opportunities to our residents for fulfillment and support.

THE START

The tables were adorned with eggs scattered on and around the table. Rice and food coloring filled many sandwich bags. Many questioned how the project worked. “How do we get the color on the eggs?”  Amy, the master of activities instructed, “Put the eggs in the bag and shake, shake. The more you jiggle and wobble the bag of rice with coloring, the more color you see on the eggs!”

As the residents mimicked each other’s motions, the furrowed brows of confused shifted to smiles of delight as they watched the eggs transform to different shades of blue, green, red and others. Upon completion the event, they all enjoyed a delicious meal together.

THE FINISH

Finally, it is appropriate to note a possible connection between the shake cheer and the eggs altering to a new state of appearance. The song Shake performed by MercyMe hints at the transformation that can happen upon understanding the meaning of the Easter story.

HAPPY EASTER!
